The Wayne Baseball Association is always looking for anyone who would like to coach or be an assistant coach.  If you'd like to help out with either of these positions, please email Kerry

Coaching Tips

A Good Coach:

- Organizes practices sot hat kids aren't just standing around.
- Demonstrates solid knowledge of the sport, and the ability to teach kids new skills.
- Spends time talking to kids individually or in small groups.
- Pays attention to safety issues including conditioning, equipment, and playing conditions.
- NEVER belittles a player, SCREAMS or otherwise uses an inappropriate tone of voice.
   Instead, criticizes play in a sensitive, positive manner.
- Listens to kids - and to their parents.
- Gives EVERYONE a chance to play.
- Doesn't let winning become too important.
- Respects officials, opponents, and the rules of the game - and teaches players to do
   likewise.
- Makes baseball fun.

RULES OF CONDUCT

FOR COACHES IN ALL LEAGUES

  1. A coach will follow the rules set down by the W.B.A.
     
  2. A coach will be a role model for his team by conducting himself/herself in a      manner that reflects good sportsmanship.
     
  3. A coach will teach fundamentals of baseball to all players.
     
  4. A coach will promote a sense of accomplishment in each team member.
     
  5. A coach will provide a fun experience for each player.
     

  6. A coach will provide a safe environment with attention to furnishing safe equipment.
     

  7. Coaches will assist umpires in controlling their spectators and at no time shall act in a manner so as to incite a disturbance.
     

  8. Coaches will not play a player who is ineligible. (Eligible is defined as players officially approved by WBA and on that roster). Coaches who ignore this rule may be suspended.
     

  9. Coaches will use good judgment and reason in disciplining players. Benching or running is the only approved methods for discipline. Coaches are not to use physical force or use abusive language.
     
  10. Coaches must use positive reinforcement to promote an enjoyable and educational experience for every player.
     

  11. Players are to be given reasonable notice regarding practices and changes in game schedules.
     

  12. Coaches, assistant coaches, or parents will not attempt to solicit money, sponsorship or merchandise from sources outside the WBA Board. Equipment belonging to the WBA cannot be used except at regularly scheduled games and practices approved by the WBA.
     

  13. Medical insurance provided by the WBA is only valid during sanctioned games, practices and events.
     

  14. Coaches will not transport players to areas other than regularly scheduled fields without prior notification and approval of the player’s parents.
